Personal Learning Networks

Teaching is a calling, but not everything you need to be a great teacher comes naturally. To be a great teacher you need to learn from others, especially other teachers!

I entered the teaching profession through an alternative certification program. My thought going into the program was: "I want to teach math. I know math. Students show up and I give them math. I should be fine." With my first class, I realized just how much there was to teaching and how much I needed to learn.

Every course was like a quick overview of something I needed to know more about. That's when I started finding networks of educators I could connect with to learn, get ideas, and find mentors.

My networks change as I grow as a teacher, as my needs change, and as I find new networks. My current networks are listed below with short descriptions and links to their sites. These networks represent some of my current interests in education, technology, and geology*. My favorite networks are the ones I find on Facebook because I see their content so frequently and it's easy to engage in conversation.

This network list will evolve with me as I learn and grow as a teacher.

*Though I don't teach geology, I LOVE volcanoes and geomorphology.
